The Blue Pools are located in Mount Aspiring National Park, between Haast & Wanaka on Highway 6 (Haast Pass-Makarora Road). You will ideally have your own transport to get there - Car, Camper or otherwise.. The Blue pools walking track is a loop of 3 kilometres or a 1-hour return walk (extra 30 minutes return from the Car park).

The Haast Blue Pools are the one spot along the Haast Pass where you will come across crowds. At just over an hour's drive from Wanaka, and 2 from Queenstown, the Blue Pools are part of every tour itinerary in the region and the car park is filled with buses and cars, and the track, while never crowded, is a constant procession of people walking to and from the pools.

Driving Instructions. This is a pleasant 70Km drive west from Wanaka, on the way to the Haast Pass on the West Coast. Followed by a 30 minute walk to the Blue Pools. The drive to the Blue Pools is very interesting. You start off from down town Wanaka, and drive to Lake Hawea. Follow Lake Hawea then cross up and over the saddle and drop back.
